PHENOMIX APPOINTS DAVID GRYSKA TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
San Diego, CA, May 10, 2006 — Phenomix Corporation, a drug discovery and development company, announced today that David W. Gryska, has joined the Company’s Board of Directors. Gryska brings over 22 years of experience in the financial industry to the Board of Phenomix, including 13 years of financial management expertise in the life science industry, most recently at Scios, Inc., where he held the positions of senior vice president and chief financial officer.
"David has an extensive financial and operational background in the biopharmaceutical industry and will be an important addition to Phenomix' Board of Directors" said Laura K. Mr. Gryska currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Seattle Genetics and CoTherix, Inc., where he is also chairman of the audit committee. During his career at Scios, he oversaw finance, business development, corporate communications and operational activities and led the transaction effort for the successful sale of Scios, Inc. to Johnson & Johnson for $2.5 billion. Prior to joining Scios, Gryska was vice president and chief finance officer at Cardiac Pathways, which was later acquired by Boston Scientific Corporation. Gryska also served in various positions at Ernst & Young, leaving the firm as partner. Gryska received his M.B.A. from Golden Gate University and his B.A. in accounting and finance from Loyola University and is a C.P.A.
